Our Botanic Team

Charlotte Bagnall
Veterinary Nurse
Charlotte graduated from UCD Dublin with a degree in Veterinary Nursing in June 2019 and then
quickly went on to join the Anicare team in September of the same year. In the meantime, she also
completed an equine nursing internship in UCD Veterinary Hospital throughout the summer of 2019.
Charlotte knew from a young age that she always wanted to work with animals as she grew up
surrounded by them living on a farm.
Charlotte’s passion lies with small animal practice and loves the nursing aspect of the job. She loves
to be hands on with all our patients, ensuring they all feel comfortable and happy throughout their
time with us.
Charlotte has 3 cats at home, Louis, LuLu and Phoebe. She rescued Phoebe as a kitten as she was
found in a puddle all by herself. She is now spoilt with plenty of cuddles.
Outside of Anicare, Charlotte’s favourite past time would be horse riding. Unfortunately busy
college life meant that horse riding took a back seat but she is keen to dive back in!
Erina Sweeney
Veterinary Nurse
Erina joined our Anicare team in 2019 after graduating from UCD as a Registered Veterinary Nurse. Erina, who is originally from Co. Mayo, knew from a young age she wanted to work with animals after growing up surrounded by them and was delighted when she found the perfect job to do just that. During Erina's four years studying, she gained experience in both small and large animal nursing, but after spending her final year of studying working within UCD veterinary hospital she realised small animal was where she wanted to work. Erina loves getting to help and work with animals everyday and loves the variety within the job.
Aoife Garland
Veterinary Nurse
Aoife qualified from UCD in 2019 as a Veterinary Nurse. She grew up in Malahide, Dublin
and always had a keen interest in animal care. As a student, Aoife completed her third year
placement with us in Anicare and during that time discovered a huge love for small animal
nursing. The following year, Aoife returned to Anicare to work part-time while she
completed her training. In 2019, Aoife joined us full time as a Registered Veterinary Nurse!
Growing up in Dublin, she didn’t have much experience in large animal care but gained
plenty of experience in both small and large animal nursing throughout her training.
Ultimately, following her experience with Anicare, Aoife decided that small animal nursing
was what she was passionate about. She can’t wait to grow as a Veterinary Nurse and gain as
much experience and knowledge while working with us at Anicare.
A lot of her love for small animal nursing comes from looking after her own cat, Kai. Aoife
loves taking care of him and he is now a regular with Anicare as he completes his weight loss
journey with Aoife and all our staff!
Michael Hatton
Michael is from a veterinary family – both his father and grandfather were veterinary surgeons. He qualified from UCD in 1983 and immediately immersed himself in small animal practice. With limited opportunities in Ireland at that time, he emigrated to the UK where he spent some time working in a small animal hospital.

His passion for travel took him further afield to Hong Kong where he initially worked in an established small animal practice and was subsequently involved in establishing what is now one of the biggest small animal hospitals in that country.

Longing to return home, he came back to Dublin in 1990 and upon finding suitable premises in Glasnevin, established the Botanic Veterinary Hospital in 1991.

Michael loves all aspects of veterinary medicine but he particularly enjoys consulting and meeting patients and their owners. He regularly attends continuing education courses and always has the best interests of the veterinary profession at the forefront of his mind.He has always had a keen interest in keeping up to date with the latest developments and trends in the veterinary industry and has continually ensured that Anicare invests in the latest technology and equipment. His stewardship has helped position Anicare at the forefront of veterinary for the past 20 years, not just in Dublin, but in all of Ireland.

Aside from his career, Michael is married to his wife Ann, has two sons, Robert and Harry, and a border terrier named Maggie. He thoroughly enjoys family time and watching his kids play for Na Fianna GAA and Clontarf Rugby Club, as well as walking Maggie. He still maintains a keen interest in travel, loves watching wildlife programs and visiting national parks.

The fast paced and challenging environment was a great training ground and Una gained valuable skills and experience in all aspects of veterinary medicine and surgery, including a spell as manager of the Swansea PDSA.

But being away from home eventually took it's toll, and in 2013 Una moved back to Dublin with her husband and 2 children.

The last pet Laura has is Wilma, a guinea pig who was found in a shoe box abandoned in a park. She was in good health when she was handed into the clinic. At first she very nervous when Laura took her home but with some love and care she is now happy to be part of the animal family.

She has 3 pets; Mondo, her beloved 13 year old Springer Spaniel that still lives in Ashford where he has the space to run around her parents big garden, Mickey, the 3 legged Chihuahua and Diego, the socially awkward cat from Wales, both of whom are more suited to city life!
