Tips on toilet training your puppy

nauka-czystosciYou might be a little frustrated right now because house training is not progressing as fast as you had hoped.
Your puppy just doesn’t seem to get it….

Here are a few tips to toilet training your puppy:

  • Take your puppy out to the toilet frequently (approx every 1-2 hours at first) to a spot that your find suitable. A good idea is to set a timer to remind yourself.
  • Do not train your puppy on newspaper or puppy pads in the house as this creates confusion over where the right toileting spot actually is. This is effectively training them to go inside the house. You want your puppy to learn to ‘hold on’ and wait for you to come and let him out – rather than opt for an easy alternative inside.

  • Never punish the pup for toilet accidents inside the house they do not understand and this can lead to a stressed and nervous puppy.
  • Ensure that a treat and lots of praise is given EVERY time a successful trip to the right toileting spot has been completed.
  • Put your puppy on a regular and timely feeding schedule, this will help with knowing your puppy’s toilet routine. Remember puppies always go to the toilet after eat, sleep and play!
