Specialist Services
Radiology and Ultrasonography
All of our clinics are equipped with radiology and ultrasound facilities.
On occasion, for non-routine cases, we also engage the services of Emma Tobin, a specialised veterinary radiologist who has a certificate in Diagnostic Imaging and provides an ultrasound referral service in our Blanchardstown Veterinary Hospital every week. We can also avail of her expert advice if a specialist opinion is needed on any radiograph taken within the Anicare Veterinary Group.
If a patient requires a referral to our ultrasound/radiologist specialist then an appointment can be made by one of the Anicare vets, and can usually be scheduled within one week.
Hydrotherapy is a natural way to promote the healing process. It has long been used in humans and is now recognised to greatly benefit dogs in relieving discomfort from many musculoskeletal problems as well as promote fitness and physical well-being. It may be part of the treatment plan for the rehabilitation of dogs with various conditions such as orthopaedic problems, arthritis, obesity and degenerative conditions.
The treatment involves gentle exercise in warm water by walking on an aquatic treadmill. The warm water expands the blood vessels increasing blood flow thereby supplying increased oxygen and nourishment to the muscles. The water also has a soothing and massaging effect on the joints and muscles. This helps the dog to move more comfortably, gaining muscle mass to support the affected limbs. Over time patients will increase their range of motion and flexibility of their joints, improving their quality of life.
Blanchardstown Canine Hydrotherapy Centre (http://www.animal-hydro.ie) is located in the same building as Blanchardstown Veterinary Hospital. It is run by Susan Reilly, a qualified veterinary nurse who has undertaken further specialised training for Canine Hydrotherapy and Rehabilitation at the Hawksmoor Hydrotherapy Training Centre and at the Greyfriars Canine Rehabilitation Centre in the UK. We are happy to work closely with Susan and may refer appropriate cases to her for hydrotherapy.
